Katherine Jenkins, who today makes her debut on the Young Music Millionaires list with £6m, says it can take more than an hour to style her locks. 'Well, that's how long it takes my hairdresser,' she admitted. How does this compare with the average Welsh woman?

I'm pretty quick. It only takes me about half an hour to get ready altogether, including everything. I'm quite prepared and just get ready and go.
I've recently had my hair cut into a bob, so it takes longer than it used to because I have to style it, so it takes me about 10 or 15 minutes.
How long does it take to do your hair before a night out?It does take me a little bit longer, but I'm not one to take ages getting ready. The thing that takes the longest is straightening my hair. I can do the sides but not the back - you end up with a little tuft.

In the morning I don't take long at all because working in radio, getting up early, I need a low maintenance cut. It's a short blonde bob at the moment. I tend to take about 10 to 15 minutes to put a brush through it and straighten it.
Sometimes though, if we're interviewing people on the show, and I have to have publicity photos done, I will take half an hour to a hour to blow dry, put products in, maybe a leave-in conditioner.

For a night out I can take around an hour to blow dry, put products in and straighten.
When I'm going to an event, my hairdresser - Darryl at The Salon in Pontcanna - can take over an hour to do my hair. The longest I've ever taken is two hours, when I had my hair done for my wedding and the hairdresser had to perfect the tousled look.
I think it is quite acceptable though, especially if you have lovely long hair like Katherine.

How long it takes me to do my hair depends on if I'm presenting. If I'm not it'll take me literally five minutes, but if I am, it will take about half an hour to blow dry and straighten.

If I have a night out, it may take around 45 minutes to style. It's difficult to do the back of your own hair, so that makes it take longer - although if Matt (Johnson, her TV presenter boyfriend) is around, he has been known to help straighten the back.
If I go to the hairdressers, it will take about an hour. Matt takes literally seconds to do his hair - just a little bit of the same wax he has been using for years.

I had my hair cut into a bob last year and it took me about five minutes to perfect after getting out of the shower. My hair is now just past shoulder length as I'm growing it for my wedding. But I have some ghd straighteners which have changed my life as I have quite frizzy hair. I used to have to blow dry my hair straight but now I can just dry it and put the straighteners through and it takes about 30 minutes.

If I have to have it curly for a show I will put the curlers in 30 minutes before going on stage and then take them out five minutes before curtain up. I think over an hour sounds like a long time to spend on doing your hair - that is usually enough time for me to get a whole head of highlights and a blow dry.

I have just had my hair cut short. I now have to wash it and straighten it every day and it probably takes me about an hour.

I used to be able to wash it and let it dry naturally and it hadn't occurred to me that having short hair would take longer. I don't think the time matters really as it depends what you are doing to it.

All I do is brush it in the morning and maybe throw a clip in it if I've got a bad hair day (which is most days!). It takes me about five minutes to do my hair in the morning, because I would rather stay in bed.
I wash my hair every two or three days, and then in the mornings if it's sticking up at the back I'll flatten it down with some water.

Alix definitely takes longer than me, although he doesn't take too long.
He gets a lot of products sent to him, and he uses about four different ones to keep it wet looking.

I am usually in such a rush in the morning, I dry my hair with two hairdryers at once.
Mostly, I just pop my hair under a tap, shampoo and condition it, towel dry it - then blast it with two hairdryers - one heats it and I use the other like a brush. That way it's twice as fast.
I can't stand going to the hairdressers. Sometime's I use my daughter's L'Oreal Kids strawberry which shampoos and conditions at the same time. I've got no patience.
So that's usually six minutes to wash it and five to dry it.

My hair is naturally wavy but I find straightening it, about twice a week, makes it look silky and shiny.
An hour or two spent on your hair is ridiculous though. Katherine Jenkins always looks totally immaculate - she's in a different league.
But she is not the kind of person I would have wanted to go InterRailing with.

Last year I had my hair cut off to a bob. I have always had long hair and it is mega-thick so it used to take me half an hour to blow dry it. Because it is so thick if I had a normal bob it would go like a triangle, so I have had it all undercut underneath. Now it literally takes me five minutes to blow dry it for every day.

If I am going to a big event like the British Hairdresser of the Year Awards I like to have it curly or dressed up. That normally takes me an hour and I'll travel down to an event in rollers or sleep in them. I think it is fair enough for Katherine's hair to take that long as it has to withstand heat on stage.

Every morning I shampoo and condition my hair and dry it. As I'm eating my cornflakes, I pop on the wax and I'm out of the door.
The whole process from start to finish only takes me about seven minutes.

Katherine Jenkins goes for the glamour look and she probably has someone to help her, she always looks very nice.
But I get up at 4.45am twice a week and at that time in the morning, the last thing on your mind is worrying about how your hair looks.

I just blow dry my hair and then leave it as it is. Me and Beth (Gibson, keyboards) are probably the worst in the band. If we are on tour we just wash our fringes and we can leave our hair for three days. The boys have little bits of Brylcreem and wax that they carry around and they are always fussing with their hair.
How long does it take to do your hair before a night out?
We did do a photo shoot where they clipped my hair up into a 1920s' bob with lots of curls. That took about half an hour and looked good. I have tried to be more creative myself but it never lasts. If someone did my hair and I had a nice cup of tea or a beer then I wouldn't mind, I couldn't be bothered to do it myself.
